Sometimes when you are driving your car all lost in your thoughts and all of a sudden a flash comes about on the car’s instrumental panel and your start worrying what should you do next?
The cars of this era are mixture of latest technological devices and are well equipped with certain devices to ensure the proper working of the car’s machinery and sometimes these devices make some problems and then you are warned with warning lights. A decade ago such flashing lights were used to indicate car engine’s failure or huge expenses to fix some major problems of the car. This can be true today but not always as these flashing lights sometimes issue warnings about some minor problems as well like in some cars a warning is issued to remind drivers to perform regular maintenance of the car.
But the important question is what should be the response toward these flashing lights? First try not to panic. Engine is not going to blow itself off right after the flashing of light so get your car out of the traffic and park it somewhere safe. After that you’ve to read the instructions on the owner’s manual.
Usually the check engine flash light refers to diagnostic warning which means that on board processing unit is detecting something unusual or wrong in the car machinery. If you have a latest technological car your car system will find a problem and will tell you the exact location of it, but it depends on cars as every car is different from another. Therefore, it is suggested to use a manual to know which buttons should be pressed to know the answer. After that press the button and you’ll get the answer which can help you to take important steps.
But what if your check engine light starts flashing on and off? Sometimes it happens frequently which make car owners confuse whether there is anything wrong or not. Check your manual to find an answer. If you don’t find an answer then start taking written or mental notes of the conditions like whether the weather is hot, wet or cold? Or is the slope at which you are driving very steep for the engine? Try to discover any specific thing which is the reason of the problem.
If you are a mechanic, nothing can be better than that as it would be easy for you to fix your engine all by yourself but if not, take your car straight to the local mechanic. Don’t panic as it can be a minor problem but important thing is don’t delay too much. Delaying can probably make this minor problem a major one so try to give attention to flash lights and fix the problem as soon as possible because the check engine light surely means there is something that needs to be fixed.
